You could look at pricing Ontrack directly but again, complexity and cost weight in. Veeam are meant to be oem'ing granular restore technology from Ontrack to facilitate restores from SQL/Excahnge but it didn't make the version 5 cut. The Backup Exec agents certainly do add to the cost, the best value one is a single Active Directory agent, allows very simple single object restores to AD when someone does something stupid. A factor in Veeams case is tht each job can either backup locally or remotely (replicate) but not both together so you've to time your backups carefully and if you're dealing with a lot of VMs, the backup window can shrink considerably, replication speed is also dependant on bandwidth also. Or should I be looking at somethign else entirely?īit of a tough call, I'd like to get Backup Exec but it's missing replication and the cost is $$$! One factor to consider is VMware Site Recovery manager is priced per VM and is meant to be bringing replication with the next version, that said it's an additional product.
I am tending towards buying the veeam product, due to the fact that it's one tool for everything and I wont then have to buy any more application agents.
